Discovering Photography: The Basics and Beyond
Seating is limited. Registration is recommended. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Would you like to learn how to take better photographs? Join us for a beginner-friendly photography class with Paul Dileanis of San Jose Camera. This introduction to photography presentation will help familiarize you with the most important features of your camera as well as the importance of light and composition in creating captivating photographs.
One of the great attractions of photography is the apparent ease with which basic skills can be learned. However, to become an accomplished photographer, fundamental photographic techniques must be mastered. The basics of photography haven’t changed since the first permanent image was created in 1826. We are still using a light tight box containing a light sensitive material with a lens and other means to control the exposure. The same underlying principles apply to both film (analog) and digital photography.
Today your camera is a portable computer with the ability to alter many image characteristics in the camera itself. You have the choice of shooting in the factory default settings or exercising more precise control over the color, exposure, and other parameters.
Some of the topics to be covered include:
• JPEG vs RAW
• Aperture, shutter speed and ISO
• Camera controls and exposure modes
• Basic composition skills
By understanding how the camera works and learning the fundamentals of photography you will be well on the way to learning how your camera “sees”. This knowledge will help you to improve your photography and to develop your photographic vision.
