Join us for a special virtual event with NASA to learn about their free-flying robots. Project Manager of NASA's International Space Station (ISS) Astrobee Facility project, Jose Benavides, will discuss NASA’s new free-flying robotic system called "Astrobee." 

The Astrobee system consists of three cubed-shaped robots, software and a docking station used for recharging. Astrobee will help astronauts reduce time they spend on routine duties, leaving them to focus more on the things that only humans can do. Working autonomously or via remote control by astronauts, flight controllers or researchers on the ground, the robots are designed to complete tasks such as taking inventory, documenting experiments conducted by astronauts or working together to move cargo throughout the station. Jose Benavides is currently the Project Manager of the NASA International Space Station (ISS) Astrobee Facility project. Jose started employment as a contractor at NASA’s Ames Research Center California’s Silicon Valley in 2008 as a member of the Advanced Control and Evolvable Systems (ACES) Group in the Intelligent Systems Division. His past projects include rapid prototyping of controls systems using FPGAs, controls-oriented vehicle design of air-breathing hypersonic aircraft, trajectory generation and optimization for tactical flight management systems, pilot-in-the-loop high fidelity 6-dof flight simulation, and small satellite software.
