Civics Kids: Washington, DC Edition (Day 1)

What is the government & how does it work? How do we make a better community?

Let's go to Washington, D.C.! This summer, Chris Chiang (dad) and Mary Hodgett-Chiang (5th grader) travel across the country to introduce our federal government via virtual field trips, books & guest speakers. For ages 9-11.

  • July 26: LIVE from U.S. Congress with MV Mayor Ellen Kamei
  • July 27: LIVE from the U.S. Supreme Court with Judge Leslie Nichols
  • July 28: LIVE presentation of RECORDED program from the Black Lives Matter Plaza and the White House with MV Police Chief Chris Hsiung

Please register for each program separately.

Chris Chiang is a social studies teacher with over 16 years of experience teaching civics. His favorite civic experience is taking young people to Washington DC, and he hopes you can join these virtual field trips. Mary Hodgett-Chiang is a rising 5th grader. Her favorite political experience was marching in Washington, D.C.

While you're waiting, check out these great books about government and public service.
