Join us for a discussion with professor, social justice activist and author Dr. Janet Dewart Bell. She will discuss her NAACP Image Award-winning book, Lighting the Fires of Freedom: African American Women in the Civil Rights Movement. Dr. Bell will showcase her research on the often overshadowed leadership of African American women during the twentieth century fight for civil rights.

Dr. Janet Dewart Bell is a communications strategist and management consultant with a multimedia background, as well as experience in policy advocacy, strategic planning, fund development, media training and education. She is a social justice advocate, activist, executive coach and motivational speaker with a doctorate in Leadership and Change from Antioch University. She is the author of Carving Out a Humanity: Race, Rights, and RedemptionLighting the Fires of Freedom: African American Women in the Civil Rights Movement and Race, Rights, and Redemption: The Derrick Bell Lectures on the Law and Critical Race Theory.
