SUMMARY:What the Fireflies Knew: Author Talk with Kai Harris
DESCRIPTION:Registration is recommended. Seating is limited. Walk-ins are 
 also welcome.\n\nJoin us for an evening with Kai Harris\, author of the 
 critically acclaimed novel What the Fireflies Knew. She will discuss her 
 writing process\, her journey to publication and answer questions from the 
 audience. \n\nDr. Kai Harris is a writer and educator from Detroit\, 
 Michigan\, whose critically acclaimed debut novel What the Fireflies Knew 
 is a Marie Claire Book Club pick\, Book of the Month add-on\, and was 
 longlisted for the Center for Fiction's First Novel Prize. Kai’s 
 writing\, which centers on the Black experience\, has appeared in 
 Guernica\, Lit Hub\, Kweli Journal\, Longform\, and the Hilltop Review\, 
 amongst others. In addition to fiction\, Kai has published poetry\, 
 personal essays\, and peer-reviewed academic articles on topics related to 
 Black girlhood/womanhood\, the slave narrative genre\, and Black identity. 
 Kai currently lives in the Bay Area where she is an Assistant Professor of 
 Creative Writing at Santa Clara University.\n\nThis event is part of 
 Silicon Valley Reads 2023. Silicon Valley Reads is a community engagement 
 program that features books and an annual theme to bring people together by 
 providing more than 100 free\, public events each year in February and 
 March. For 2023\, Silicon Valley Reads will set off on a “Journey to New 
 Beginnings.”\n\nThis program is generously sponsored by the Friends of 
 the Mountain View Library.
